Summer is quickly approaching, which leaves time for more family activities. Looking for something fun and educational? Bring the whole family to Family STEAM Fest from 2- 5 p.m. on Saturday, June 22. Family STEAM Fest provides a thrilling afternoon of discovery of science, technology, engineering, art and mathematics (STEAM) activities for children.
Not a member of Girl Scouts? No problem! This event is open to the public. Activities are geared toward children ages 5-17 of all genders. All children must be accompanied by an adult.
This event will be held at Camp Trivera, a sprawling, world-class learning environment in the heart of Oklahoma City. Parking will be located across the street at 2801 NE 50th St. With participation from more than 15 community partners, children will have the opportunity to engage in dozens of hands-on activities, such as water testing with OSU, earthquake engineering with OU, an Elephant and Rhino activity from OKC Zoo, the Mobile Makerspace from Science Museum Oklahoma and much more. Plus, all of the educational opportunities will allow for important discussions about renewable energy and sustainability, helping families understand how easy it is to incorporate sustainability efforts into everyday life.
When introduced to science, technology, engineering, art and mathematics (STEAM) at a young age, children gain valuable educational, leadership and future career skills.
“Exposing children to STEAM activities opens up a world of possibilities,” said Girl Scouts Western Oklahoma Director of Programs Ashley Elkins. “Through discovery and inquiry, children develop a greater understanding of the world around them and learn how to approach and solve problems in new ways.”
Family STEAM Fest will also feature free giveaways, a blood drive and snacks available for purchase.
“This will be a day of fun unlike any other,” said Elkins. “The variety of featured activities means there is something for everyone.”
